They were all fascinated by Whitman, but everyone know that he was an alien.
Whitman was their American predecessor but I don't think they were necessarily fascinated by him. They were under his influence, but they rebelled early on and found most of their sources within French/Italian/17th century English poetry.
Seems like a bit of a crank.
