Are there any conspiracy theories regarding the discontinuation of this nifty device? The excuse that it is unreliable seems hard to believe, even for German tech.
Yes they gave all of them to ISIS.
The G36 is reliable under almost every condition. There have been some precision issues, which occured when the rifle was exposed to very hot environment and long firefights.
The fact that the troops never said anything bad about the rifles presicion indicates that this whole story about it is just political motivated crap.
> There have been some precision issues, which occured when the rifle was exposed to very hot environment and long firefights.
And this has become a realistic scenario for the future Bundeswehr.
TLDR for polical ass-reasons cannon fodder got no machine gun and abused the G36 for supp
Isnt the G36 a modular system that can be used for any purpose if you add the right devices.
For example short weapons for confined spaces, or long range precision shooting?
If i got that right it'd be simply to dangerous if these guys flooded the civil population in times like these where people start to radicalize again.
Imagine you could do a lot of different Guerilla jobs with just one G36.
No, you can't just change the barrel, for example.
It's molded into the receiver.
You have the usual picatinny shit, nothing more.
Afaik the barrel was desingned to be foremost cost efficient, therefore not realy durable.
The former and the current defense ministers are both prime candidate for being the next chancellor, so they try to shit each other.
That's basically it.
It is perfectly durable given the requirements agreed on when the government bought them. The government then used them in other purposes than specified, with cheaper ammunition, etc.
it was discontinued because it doesnt clean your pants after you shat them
