Canadians!
I am probably moving to Toronto soon and I have a few questions about your country.
Phone providers, which one is the least bad?
Banks, same thing.
And tipping, are you as retarded about tipping as Americans?

Will you jsut be staying in Toronto? If you need coverage only in Toronto check WIND mobile, its an upstart but cheap. Dont expect to get service outside of Toronto though.

>Banks
Hard to say, will you be studying? If you do each bank will have a free student account.

Tipping
>15% at restaurants, usually at bars you're expected to give on mix drinks as well, not beers though.

Please don't be a typical foreigner and only hang out with your ethnic group

I will check it out, I'm actually going to UoT in Scarborough, which I understand is in a suburb of Toronto so I imagine it should work there as well. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, I'll be studying most of the year.

Thanks for the info.

Don't worry, my main interest is to mingle with everyone in the university, I'm very much uninterested with spending most of my time with other Latin Americans.

Should work in Scarborough, i should've said GTA: Greater Toronto Area. You'll find that banks have ABMS pretty much anywhere so its really just going to be pretty much a random choice which bank you choose. Maybe which bank machine is closest to your house? In any case it will be free.

Best of luck though

I will agree with my compatriot that WIND mobile is good. Yes, it will work well in Scarborough, although down at the Rouge Hill GO station right along the lakeshore I often start roaming.
Any of the big banks are good. Scotiabank, RBC, CIBC, TD Bank, BMO.
Yes, we're kind of retarded about tipping.

>I'm actually going to UoT in Scarborough
Oh dog, I might take some classes there since it's closer than the downtown campus. Also, since you're in Scarborough, prepare to see lots of East Asians and lots of Tamils, Pakistanis, and Indians. Will you be living on campus, too?

For regular shopping (including grocery shopping), there are lots of plazas scattered around Scarborough, but you can take the 38 Highland Creek bus from UTSC straight to the Scarborough Town Centre, which is the main mall and sort of central hub of Scarborough, which also lets you connect to the RT (rapid transit), which connects to the subway system in Toronto. The 38 bus also drives past Ellesmere and Neilson, where there's a small plaza with a supermarket and a hospital across the street. That was my old neighbourhood.

Also, I want to socialize at least a bit as soon as I'm there, I don't want to be totally friendless during my stay there. Which are the best hangouts near UTSC? Or maybe even further, I don't mind.
As for transportation, I've heard that in some European countries you can buy a pass at a set price and then you can use it on any public transportation service in the province/state/city/metropolitan-area. Is there anything similar in Toronto/Scarborough?

Thanks for all your answers.

>Will you be living on campus, too?
That is my hope, I'll be arriving in November for the Winter term at the latest so I think I'll manage to get campus housing since I asked for it in June.

Great info on transportation and shopping I'm glad that I could find someone with inside info on the subject.

Too late, I've had plenty of white women by now. In my country. Not really, I'm on KC for a reason.

Guten Tag.
Ich bin in kanada und ich lernen deutsch. I happened to stumble to your board today.

>Phone providers, which one is the least bad?
if I was you I'd get a cell phone with Petro Canada mobility. It's a new service based on Rogers network, and basically you have 1 zone which is the whole country. It's cheap, too. You can get a prepaid card or a monthly service, all possible without contract. I'd go with them if I were you.

>Banks, same thing.
Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). It's rated first bank in Canada, top 6 across North America. If you are a student, you can get all services for free. Additionally, you can get (whether you are a student or not) a multi-products discount. For example if you have a credit card, a checking account and an other service, you get a discount.

>And tipping, are you as retarded about tipping as Americans?
Can't say about Toronto, but here we always tip >=15%. We only tip less if the service was unacceptable.

I hope I am not too late to give you some insights :(

Thank God this fucker got banned. Fuck you ass hole.

Anyway, to OP;
Cheapest phone provider would either be PublicMobile if you want 3G as well or chatr if you want phone only.

Canada's Wonderland is in the suburbs of Toronto. It's the #1 place in Canada for big roller coasters and other fun things (the only place in Canada that comes close is La Ronde in Montreal). Leviathan is there and it's the tallest and fastest in the country.
